Visitor Information

The Uganda Museum is situated five kilometers, north east of Kampala City Centre on Plot 5, Kira road.  From Kampala, through Wandegeya trading Centre, to Mulago roundabout, then just before Kamwokya trading center opposite the Levels Lounge

Opening Hours

The Uganda National Museum is open to the public Monday to Sunday and on public holidays from 9.00 am-5.30 pm. We are also open to hiring conferences, public lectures, parties, and other festivities. Booking can be made face-to-face at the Museum front desk.

Larger groups and schools are requested to make bookings through our contacts prior to arrival.

Gallery Policy

  • Visitors to the museum are expected to observe the Covid- 19 Standard Operating procedures; wash your hands or sanitize before entering, wear a mask, keep distance within the galleries

  • Visitors will be asked to present all carried items for inspection upon entering the galleries

  • Luggage and other oversized bags must be presented at the security point for screening at the entrance. We regret that we are unable to accommodate any items larger than 17x26 inches (46x66cm) into the galleries

  • For the safety of the exhibits and our visitors, nothing may be carried on your back. Any bag or other items that cannot be carried reasonably and safely in some other manner must be checked.

  • We recommend that students leave their backpacks at school or on the bus to prevent entry delays.

  • The Museum is not responsible for loss or damage to laptops, cameras, coats, sweaters and other items of substantial value. Such items cannot be left in our checkrooms but may be carried into the galleries.

  • Food and beverages are not allowed inside the galleries, except outside at the food service areas.

  • Pets are not allowed in the museum

  • The Museum stores are out of bounds for visiting by the public except for prior request

  • Photography for personal use is permitted at a fee, except in special exhibitions. Also the following gadgets are not allowed in the premises without authorization

    • Monopods and tripods​

    • Cameras

    • Voice recorders

    • Sale of unauthorized items to invited guest
